Sanjukta Dutta is a name that needs no introduction. She has taken the world of fashion by storm with her elegant and gorgeous designs; and fabric types that were previously limited among the people in Assam.

Having carved out for herself a name in the fashion industry; her career however began with the intention to bring to national light the graceful mekhela that has been long been under the radar!

“Everywhere I went, people were aware of different silk sarees in the country like banarasi, kanjeevaram, chanderi… but very few knew about the traditional Assamese split saree (mekhelachador), made from muga silk,” says the civil engineer turned designer and entrepreneur.

She has had famous celebrities walk the ramp for her, donning beautiful designs on the mekhela.

The most recent celebrity who couldn’t stop gushing about the mekhela chador was Karishma Kapoor at the Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week (LMIFW) in New Delhi on March 14th.

At LFIMW, Dutta showcased her latest collection 'Morom', which means 'love' in Assamese: Morom includes designs which beautifully amalgamate the tradition of Assam with modern silhouettes. The event was organised by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).
