A Success Story Emerging from Long Struggle: Madhadev College now University
The Assam Government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal set out on Monday 3rd of June, 2019 to fulfill a demand of the people: Conversion of the Madhabdev College - excelling its own right, to a full fledged University! Founded. in 1964 Madhabdev College is one of the leading centres of higher education in Lakhimpur district with both humanities and science streams.
It has a sprawling campus ideal for academic establishments like university and fairly good infrastructures
This elevation to the college located in Narayanpur, Lakhimpur comes with the Government appointing Professor Dibakar Chandra Deka, head of the Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University as its first vice chancellor.
An alumnus of Gauhati University and IIT-Kharagpur, Prof Deka did M Sc in Organic Chemistry in 1983, MTech in High Pressure Technology and Catalysis from IIT-Kharagpur, Ph D on Organic Reaction under Pressure from IIT-Kharagpur, Diploma in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Tokyo Institute of Technology, and D Sc in Organic Synthesis from Gauhati University.
A former UNESCO research fellow in Japan and Commonwealth Visiting Fellow at University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, Prof Deka has a research experience of 31 years and teaching experience of 29 years.
The university now fulfills the aspirations of thousands of college pass outs to go for various masters programmes from interior areas of Lakhimpur, Biswanath and Majuli districts who usually could not make it to Dibrugarh and Gauhati University for long distances and limited intake capacities. This is some significant measure, and we are elated! Kudos to the Chief Minister! Kudos to the Government foe helping realise education for many.
