Assam Startup: Generating Employment
Updated: Sep 30, 2019
Unemployment is a matter of grave concern. The slowdown in the job market has affected both the government sector and the private sector, with the ratio of unemployed persons to the job opportunities available being highly imbalanced. Given the current scenario it would be in vain to wait for the right job opportunity, whether it be a readymade government job or a decent job in the private sector.
Chief Minister of Assam about Assam Startup:
Keeping this situation in mind, Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal has come up with Assam Startup to encourage entrepreneurship and thus generate employment.
Assam Startup is an initiative of the Department of Industries and Commerce of the Government of Assam in association with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP). Under the initiative, an avant-garde incubation centre called 'The Nest' was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal 20th January, 2019. The Assam Startup website was also launched on the same day, inviting applications for the first phase of incubation proceedings.
The state owned incubator for startups called Assam Startup - The Nest was formally launched in Guwahati by Sarbananda Sonowal.
To participate in the project, the applicants must belong to Assam, must be intending to establish the startup in Assam and have some truly innovative ideas to benefit the economy of the state. If it is a registered startup it should not be more than 7 years old, or 10 years in the case of the biotechnology sector. The programme welcomes innovative ideas in all areas except those concerned with alcohol, tobacco, explosives, and the like. The online portal of Assam Startup will be available at ‘startup.assam.gov.in’. At this occasion, the chief Minister of Assam has stated that Act East Policy has given impetus to the trade and business in the state and through this policy the state would become the gateway and the business hub of South East Asia. Information about Assam Startup is also available on manuhe manuhor babe. This website also provides all information related to Assam.
The primary goal of the initiative is to create 1000 new startups in the next 5 years. The good news is that in the first phase of incubation itself 52 startups have been taken on board and applications invited for the next batch of incubates.
The Assam Startup initiative basically aims to take care of the key objectives in creating a startup ecosystem in the state. Its objectives include intervening in the academic sector to initiate entrepreneurial studies, funding entrepreneurial enthusiasts, digitalizing the startup ecosystem in order to simplify access to elements enhancing the work and last but not the least, mentoring and fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship to reach new goals.
With the implementation of the policies of Assam Startup, entrepreneurship will definitely rise, creating various employment opportunities. In no time there will be a positive turnaround in the slowdown that the job market is currently experiencing, with people of the state generating employment for themselves and others, instead of turning to the government or the existing private sector.
