Diphu's very own Hero!
The last post on Manuhe Manuor Babe, explored how the #Trash
Challenge is gaining steam all over the world and particularly in small pockets of Assam. Another such is the case of a 17-year-old youth from Diphu in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district who is taking the viral trend to a whole another level!
Raikom Enghi, a student of Don Bosco Junior College in Diphu, has set out for himself the ginormous task of making Taralangso – his domicile: completely litter-free.
Taralangso had previously been the venue for the recently-concluded Karbi Youth Festival when it became a dumping ground for litter.
And the fact that it is spread across a huge area of 100 acres implies that, Enghi’s task is not going to be one without a fight. However, young Raikom is also determined and has set a tight target of cleaning up the whole area by the end of April this year.
Clad simply with a broom and a garbage bag, Enghi wakes up at 5am every day and coverts around 6kms to reach Taralangso where he nicks away at the Herculean task.
The #Trashtag hashtag has spawned thousands of posts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and other social media, while it continues to trend among teenagers in particular.
