Pink Revolution: A reality in the making

Updated: Oct 7, 2019

The last time Pink Revolution made the news was when India's meat export industry was slowing down.

But a lot has changed since 2016, the Assam Government has been overhauled and a new era of progressive business landscape has been ushered in.

It is in this context, that the Pink revolution is taking place in Assam.

It is with the impetus of the governnment schemes as developed under the Leadership of Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, that the North-East Progressive Pig Farmers’ Association (NEPPFA) which is an association of commercial pig farmers of the north-eastern region was formed.

Sonowal has assured the Association of extending all necessary support by the Government so that commercial piggery could become one of the leading sectors in agriculture and set an example before the entire country.

NEPPFA president Manoj Kumar Basumatary, while speaking on the ocassion, said that the pig farmers were contributing to a revolution, which with proper guidance and support could transform the economic scenario of the region.

“Here we are talking of a real revolution which is taking place. It is taking place through the meat sector and will be able to meet the food security demands of this region and impact the economics of this region,” Basumatary speculated.

He said that the NEPPFA was an inclusive platform formed to ensure that all pig farmers get all the required support to boost the Pink Revolution.

NEPPFA general secretary Mrinal Kumar Borah, in his address, said that the organisation was formed with the ambitious vision of creating a global brand of pork like Assam Tea. He said the Association was working with the twin objective of developing the farmers and providing safe and hygienic meat to the consumers.

Now this is change that will directly impact the regional economy as well as the base of employment. This means opporunities multiplicated! What do you think about it? Share with us your opinion and tag us in the discussion with @ManuheManuhorbabe1 on Twitter and on Facebook.
