Relief for the Unorganised Sector: PMSYM
The commitment of the government for empowerment of its farmers and its labourers gain precedent over all other concerns has been time and again proved in its prioritisation and policies; and has been reiterated once again with the launch of the new scheme that seeks to provide insurance protection cover for the poor and the downtrodden.
Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal launched for the State the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana in Guwahati on the 5th of March, 2019.
The scheme is set to provide a monthly pension of Rs. 3000 to workers & labourers of unorganised sector (after 60 years of age) benefitting those with a monthly income less than of less than Rs. 15,000.
The national pension scheme for workers and labourers of unorganised sector was announced in the interim budget in February this year.
About 42 crore workers in the country from unorganised sectors are eligible for this pension scheme by contributing 55 rupees to 200 rupees monthly.
