Sports Makes a Comeback in the State: Rupjoyti Choudhury's Brazil Selection
Where there is will, there is a way and when there are ways there is Power.
A martial arts champion from a small hamlet nestled in the district headquarters of Nalbari district has now been signed by a Brazil-based club.
Rupjyoti Choudhury, a resident of Niz Bahjani, has been signed on a two-year contract by ‘City Item’ club based in Brazil three months back. He is currently representing Brazil in a broad range of combat sports which include Taekwondo (a Korean martial art), Kickboxing (stand-up combat sports) and Kung fu (Chinese martial arts).
Choudhury has won several medals in a number of international sports competitions till now. He started practising in his hometown and later shifted to Guwahati.
“It was after he started practising in Bengaluru, he got noticed by a Brazilian team and they signed him for the combat sports. He will stay in Brazil for two years,” said Rupjyoti’s friend.
“We are extremely proud of him. He is leaving his dream. He worked extremely hard to reach where he is now. Had the state government helped him like other players, he would have got the opportunity to play for the country,” said his mother.
