Tech Savvy to Padma Shri:
Uddhab Bharali is no stranger to accolades, with a knack for innovation and a curiosity that fuels technological pursuits; he has to this name more than 140 technological innovations that are set to and are meant to not only cater but also empower the farmers primarily; the young, the old and poor especially.
So when President Ram Nath Kovind presented Padma Awards at 2019 Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday; innovator Uddhab Kumar Bharali from Assam was awarded with the prestigious Padma Shri award - the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India; he obviously made Assam proud.
Uddhab Bharali is an Engineering-Grassroots innovator from Lakhimpur district of Assam. His innovations like paddy thresher, cane stripping machine, pomegranate de-seeder and low cost incinerator are the most popular of the lot and have helped increase output of more than 20, 000 farmers till date.
The people of the country and beyond must be given the chance to apply the variety of intelligent yet indigenous techniques that this man has crafted through sheer determination and perseverance. Here’s to hoping that the number of Uddhab Bharalis keep on coming!
